Each day we use internet-connected devices and services to make our lives easier and more convenient. We can do so much through web-based platforms and apps, from scheduling doctor’s appointments, managing our bank account, seeing who is at our front door, and much more! Technology benefits us greatly but we also need to make sure we are protecting ourselves from malicious attacks against our technology and data.
The National Cybersecurity Alliance and the U.S Department of Homeland Security know the importance of cybersecurity and wanted to raise awareness on this topic. That is why they declared October to be Cybersecurity Awareness Month and this year marks 19 years since this initiative was first launched.
The National Cybersecurity Alliance is focusing on 4 key elements this year in order to help you protect your personal data from cybercrimes.
- Enabling multi-factor authentication
- Using strong passwords and a password manager
- Updating software
- Recognizing and reporting phishing
